Job summary

Derby City Council is seeking an organised administrator to support Social Care/ Early Help workers and managers. The role involves handling inquiries, preparing documents and maintaining accurate records, with data entry in Liquidlogic and standard MS Office tasks.

You will work in a busy council office, with pro rata salary based on contracted hours and requirement to cover reception when needed.

Salary: Grade D, £27,274 - £28,153 Full Time Equivalent (Actual salary will be pro rata to contracted hours) Location: Post 1 - Council House, Post 2 - Locality 2, 2 Stanley Road, Alvaston Hours: Post 1 - 37 Hours hours per week, Post 2 - 18.5 hours per week Working Hours: Post 1 - Full Time hours, Post 2 - Stanley Road Office - Wed (Alt), Thurs, Fri (Week 1 Wed, Thurs, Fri/ Week 2 Thurs, Fri) Contract Type: Permanent Closing Date: 27/09/2026

The Opportunity

We are looking for an organised and motivated administrator to provide high-quality support to Social Care/ Early Help workers and managers within our service.

What you'll be doing

You will:

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the team, including handling enquiries by phone and email, preparing documents and maintaining accurate records.
  • Use Liquidlogic to input, update and retrieve case information, ensuring data is accurate, timely and handled confidentially.
  • Use Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word and Excel, to produce letters, reports, spreadsheets and maintain tracking systems.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information in line with Council policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, partners and members of the public, responding politely and professionally to enquiries.
  • Be required to provide occasional reception cover to support service delivery as and when needed.
About you

You must have:

  • Recent administrative experience in a busy office environment.
  • Previous experience in an administrative or customer support role, particularly within a local authority or public sector environment, is desirable but not essential
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to respond politely and patiently to service users
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, to produce, update and maintain a range of documents and spreadsheets
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain attention to detail.
  • An understanding of the need for confidentiality when dealing with service user information.
  • Experience of using Liquidlogic, or the ability to learn new IT systems quickly.
