Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking two Case Officers to join the Appointeeship and Deputyship team at County Hall, Leicester. You will safeguard the financial wellbeing of vulnerable adults by managing day-to-day finances, acting as a Corporate Appointee and negotiating with external bodies to secure full benefit entitlements.

The role requires strong attention to detail, experience managing client caseloads and knowledge of welfare benefits, GDPR and adult social care policy.

Qualifications

  • GCSE/NVQ Level 2 or equivalent with relevant experience in social care or government finance.
  • Significant experience managing a caseload and handling queries from the public.
  • Knowledge of Adult Social Care policy, welfare benefits and pensions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Independent worker with integrity and accountability.
  • Awareness of Appointee and Deputy obligations; GDPR/confidentiality.

Responsibilities

The Appointeeship and Deputyship team is looking for two new Case Officer colleagues to join our busy and supportive team in supporting vulnerable adults who lack the mental capacity to manage their own finances. These roles would particularly suit those from a banking or benefits background, but we are interested in hearing from anybody who can demonstrate a passion for problem-solving, excellent attention to detail and experience of managing a client caseload.

About the Role

Our Case Officers safeguard the financial wellbeing of some of our most vulnerable service users, helping them maintain as much independence as possible by:

  • Managing day-to-day finances, from paying bills to selling property.
  • Acting as a Corporate Appointee - ensuring clients receive their full benefit entitlements.
  • Negotiating with external organisations like utility providers, care providers, landlords and other local authorities.
  • Submitting detailed financial reports to the Office of the Public Guardian.
  • Keeping accurate records and case notes.
  • Playing a key role in ensuring our clients have the best quality of life that they can afford.

About You

We would like you to be able to demonstrate the following qualities, skills and experience:

  • Educated to GCSE / NVQ Level 2 or equivalent level of demonstrable and relevant experience of working in a social care, health or Government finance or administrative field.
  • substantial relevant experience in managing a caseload and dealing effectively with queries and correspondence from the public. Experience in managing client caseloads and of using financial and data management systems
  • Professional curiosity and practical problem-solving abilities and knowledge of Adult Social Care and Welfare Benefits. Basic knowledge of national Adult Social Care policy and law, state benefits and pensions
  • High standards of both written and verbal communication
  • Experience of working independently, with integrity and accountability, under minimal supervision
  • Awareness of the obligations of an Appointee and Deputy. substantial experience in interpreting and communicating complex information.
