Qualifications

  • Must hold Level 3 NVQ in Carpentry/Joinery.
  • Must have Level 2 literacy and numeracy (GCSE C/4 or equivalent).
  • Teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, DET) desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and assess Level 1 and Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery courses in workshops and classrooms.
  • Design schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning materials accessible before course start dates.
  • Conduct tutorials and provide feedback on learner progress, attendance, and behaviour.
  • Maintain workshop Health and Safety standards and college procedures.
  • Embed literacy and numeracy skills into practical trade lessons.
  • Support college recruitment and employer liaison to secure work placements.
  • Complete accurate administrative records and student tracking.

Job Title: Carpentry & Joinery Lecturer

Location: South East London

Working Pattern: Full-time (37 hours per week)

Salary: £32,787 - £40,306

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a leading Further Education provider in South East London to recruit a dedicated Carpentry & Joinery Lecturer. Whether you are an experienced FE teacher or a seasoned tradesperson looking to transition off the tools and into the classroom, this role offers an exceptional platform to share your expertise. You will work alongside a collaborative curriculum team to deliver engaging practical and theoretical training to learners working towards Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, directly helping them build confidence and secure bright futures in the construction industry.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Teach and assess Level 1 and Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery courses across practical workshops and classrooms.
  • Design and prepare schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning materials, ensuring all resources are accessible prior to course start dates.
  • Conduct regular academic tutorials, offering constructive feedback to track learner progress, attendance, and behaviour.
  • Maintain strict workshop Health and Safety standards, ensuring compliance with college procedures.
  • Embed essential functional literacy and numeracy skills directly into practical trade lessons.
  • Participate in college open days, course recruitment, and employer liaison to help secure quality work placement opportunities for students.
  • Complete accurate administrative records and student tracking documentation to support quality assurance.
What We Are Looking For
  • Qualifications: Full Level 3 NVQ qualification in Carpentry/Joinery and Level 2 literacy and numeracy credentials (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent). A recognized FE teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, DET) or Assessor/IQA awards (A1/TAQA) are desirable, but candidates willing to work towards a teaching qualification will be fully supported.
  • Characteristics: A minimum of 5 years of verifiable trade industry experience in Carpentry and Joinery, strong verbal communication skills to present effectively to class groups, and efficient organizational skills for student record-keeping.
  • Transport & Commute: Ability to commute reliably to campus sites across the South East London area.
