Job summary

Randstad Staffing partners with a prominent FE provider in South East London to recruit a Carpentry & Joinery Lecturer. You will bring your trade experience into the classroom, delivering Level 1 and Level 2 training and inspiring learners to build key industry skills.

The role is full-time, 37 hours per week, with salary bands of £33,787 to £40,306. You’ll work with the Curriculum Manager to design schemes of work, assess progress, and support learners across campuses while upholding safety

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Carpentry/Joinery including NVQ
  • Level 2 literacy and numeracy (GCSE 4/C or equivalent)
  • Desirable FE teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE/DET) or Assessor/IQA awards, or willingness to work towards

Responsibilities

  • Teach and assess Level 1 and Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery courses with practical and theory sessions
  • Design and maintain schemes of work, lesson plans and learning resources
  • Provide tutorials, monitor attendance and progress
  • Maintain Health and Safety standards in workshops
  • Promote the department via marketing events, open days and recruitment
  • Assist in establishing and monitoring work experience placements
  • Complete administrative tasks and student records for QA

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a prominent Further Education provider in South East London to recruit an enthusiastic Carpentry & Joinery Lecturer. Working closely with the Curriculum Manager, you will deliver high-quality training to students working towards Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, helping learners from all backgrounds build confidence and gain key industry skills.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Teach and assess Level 1 and Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery courses, delivering high-quality practical and theoretical sessions.
  • Design, review, and maintain comprehensive schemes of work, lesson plans, and learning resources prior to course delivery.
  • Provide individual student tutorials, offering formative feedback, tracking attendance, and monitoring academic progress.
  • Maintain strict Health and Safety standards within workshop environments in accordance with college procedures.
  • Promote the department by participating in marketing events, open days, and student recruitment initiatives.
  • Assist in establishing and monitoring work experience placements through liaisons with regional employers.
  • Complete administrative tasks and student record-keeping efficiently to support quality assurance and verification processes.
What We Are Looking For
  • Qualifications: Full Level 3 qualification in Carpentry/Joinery (including NVQ) and Level 2 literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent). A recognised FE teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, DET) or Assessor/IQA awards (A1/TAQA) are desirable, but candidates willing to work towards a teaching qualification will also be considered.
  • Characteristics: A minimum of 5 years of verifiable industry experience in Carpentry and Joinery, strong communication skills to engage diverse learner groups, and robust organizational abilities.
  • Transport & Commute: Ability to travel reliably to college campuses across South East London (including the Bromley, Bexley, and Greenwich areas).
