Randstad Education is partnering with a prominent FE college group in South East London to recruit a Vocational Trainer & Lecturer in Carpentry & Joinery. You will teach Level 1 & 2 courses and help learners gain practical skills for industry.

The role offers a full-time, 37-hour week position with a salary of £32,787–£40,306 and opportunities to develop FE teaching qualifications and gain career progression within a supportive college environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires full Level 3 NVQ in Carpentry/Joinery and Level 2 literacy and numeracy (GCSE C/4 or equivalent).
  • FE teaching qualification or Assessor/IQA awards are desirable, but support to train is available.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and assess Level 1 and Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery courses in workshops and classrooms.
  • Design, update, and manage course materials, lesson plans, and schemes of work.
  • Conduct academic tutorials for feedback, monitor attendance and progression.
  • Enforce Health and Safety protocols across workshops.
  • Embed literacy and numeracy support within practical contexts.
  • Participate in departmental recruitment, open days, and employer networking for placements.
  • Maintain administrative records and progression logs in QA standards.

We are partnering with a prominent Further Education college group in South East London to recruit a dedicated Vocational Trainer & Lecturer in Carpentry & Joinery. Working closely with the Curriculum Manager, you will teach and inspire students working towards Level 1 and Level 2 qualifications, helping learners from all backgrounds gain the practical skills, confidence, and qualifications needed to thrive in industry.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Teach and assess Level 1 and Level 2 Carpentry & Joinery courses across practical workshop spaces and theoretical classrooms.
  • Design, update, and manage course materials, lesson plans, and schemes of work prior to course start dates.
  • Conduct regular academic tutorials to deliver constructive performance feedback, monitor attendance, and track student achievement.
  • Enforce rigorous Health and Safety protocols across all workshop spaces to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Embedded functional literacy and numeracy support within practical context to boost overall student confidence.
  • Participate in departmental recruitment activities, open days, and employer networking to help facilitate high-quality student work placements.
  • Maintain meticulous administrative records and student progression logs in compliance with internal quality assurance standards.
What We Are Looking For
  • Qualifications: Full Level 3 NVQ qualification in Carpentry/Joinery and Level 2 literacy and numeracy credentials (GCSE Grade C/4 or equivalent). A recognized FE teaching qualification or Assessor/IQA awards (A1/TAQA) are desirable, but candidates willing to work towards a teaching qualification will be fully supported.
  • Characteristics: A minimum of 5 years of verifiable trade industry experience in Carpentry & Joinery, excellent verbal communication skills to present effectively to class groups, and efficient administrative capabilities.
  • Transport & Commute: Ability to commute reliably to college campus sites across South East London.
