Job summary

Amey is seeking an on-site Carpenter/Joiner for HMP Onley. The role involves planned and reactive maintenance within the prison, with a 39-hour week over 7 days on a weekend rotas pattern and an additional 15% weekend allowance. Base salary £30,866–£36,135 depending on experience. Prison security clearance required.

You will join a team delivering safe, clean, and efficient prison facilities across England and Wales, contributing to quality workmanship in joinery tasks and workshops.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
• Carry out joinery work including repairing doors, windows, signposts, formwork, and other timber items.
• Maintain joinery workshop – machines, inspections, housekeeping.
• Plan daily work with supervisor and record details on works orders.
• Measure and quote for works.
• Order materials and maintain stock of building maintenance materials.
• Support zero carbon programmes where appropriate.
• Handle other reasonable requests from line manager.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on-site Carpenter/ Joiner in HMP Onley.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, across 7 days as a weekend shift pattern is in place, covering 1 in 3 weekends. There is a need to work some weekends on a rota basis and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary.

The base salary is between £30,866 - £36,135 dependant on experience.

By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

The Carpenter & Joiner plays an important part in ensuring the planned and reactive maintenance work within the prisons is carried out in a safe, compliant and timely manner

What you will do:

• Responsible for ensuring H&S standards are achieved across the contract.
• Carry out joinery work to include repairing of doors, windows, signposts, formwork, and other bespoke timber items.
• Responsible for joinery workshop - maintenance of machines, statutory inspections, housekeeping, and cleanliness.
• Organise and plan your daily work with the supervisor, to record and submit all details of work carried out on relevant works orders.
• Measure and quote for works.
• Order materials.
• Maintain stock of Building Maintenance material.
• Support both local and business zero carbon programmes, working towards zero carbon in a strategic and lean manner as and where it is appropriate.
• Handle all other reasonable requests as determined by your line manager.
