Job summary

Think Recruitment is seeking an experienced Multiskilled Carpenter to join a prominent Local Authority's maintenance division on a temporary contract. The role covers Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough with a 37-hour week and a pay of £22.48 per hour (paid weekly via umbrella).

You will work across carpentry, plumbing, tiling, plastering, bricklaying and more, delivering a high‑quality reactive service in occupied social housing. Start ASAP, duration 3 months, with potential extensions.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' trade background.
• Experience in occupied social housing.
• Qualified trades professionals only – no DIY candidates.
• Must be local to the area; company vehicle provided for work use.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a high‑pressure reactive service within occupied social housing.
• Perform a range of trades across carpentry, plumbing, tiling and plastering to complete repairs.
• Respond to emergency callouts in a high‑volume environment across a large property stock.
• Support voids work to bring properties to lettable standard.

Carpneter / Multiskilled Operative - Requirement Summary

We require an experienced Multiskilled Operative (minimum 3 years' trade background) to deliver a high-pressure reactive service within occupied social housing. Only qualified, proven trades professionals - no DIY-level candidates.

Key Requirements & Experience

• Strong multiskilled capability across a range of trade tasks: Carpentry, Plumbing, Tiling, Plastering, Bricklaying, Fencing, Flooring, Groundworks.
• Essential experience working in occupied social housing.
• Must be local to the area - company vehicle is provided strictly for work use (vehicles are tracked for lone working/H&S purposes as well as to prevent misuse of company property).
• Must be fully vetted; no returns of previous workers unless specifically requested by the client.

Workload & Environment - Reactive responsive service:

• Standard repairs turnaround: 30 days
• Emergency callouts: 24 hoursHigh-volume environment:
• Over 8,000-property and garage stock
• Approx. 1,500 reactive repairs per month
• 20,000 repairs completed last year
• Voids work: bringing properties to lettable standard, sometimes following extremely poor living conditions (e.g., hoarding, drug misuse).

Contract & Hours

Reviewed every 12 weeks; potential for rolling extensions

Hours vary: 8:30am-5pm (37 hours/week)

Locations covered: Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough (Northamptonshire)

Approximately 60 operatives on rota currently - requires reliability to support cover during holidays/sickness.
