Job summary

Mears Group in Birmingham is seeking a skilled Carpenter to refurbish and prepare void social housing properties for new tenants. The role is hands-on, covering repairs, renewals and installations within void properties to ensure homes are safe and lettable.

You will work as part of a dedicated voids team, delivering high-quality workmanship, meeting turnaround targets and maintaining standards across Birmingham's housing stock. The position is a full-time permanent role with a 42.5-hour week.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Carpenter within domestic maintenance, refurbishment or void property works.
• Experience completing first and second fix carpentry works to a high standard.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work independently and manage workloads to achieve void turnaround targets.

Responsibilities

• Carry out carpentry repairs, renewals and installations within void properties.
• Replace and repair internal doors, frames, architraves, locks, hinges and ironmongery.
• Fit kitchens including units, worktops, pelmets and end panels.
• Install and replace skirting boards, boxing-in, shelving and other joinery items.
• Repair or replace timber flooring, stair components, handrails and banisters.
• Complete first and second fix carpentry works as part of property refurbishments.
• Make good following maintenance and refurbishment works, including minor patch repairs where required.
• Work alongside other trades to ensure properties meet lettable standards.
• Identify and rectify defects to improve the condition and presentation of void properties.
• Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health and safety regulations.

About the role:

We're looking for a skilled and reliable Carpenter to join our Birmingham Voids team, helping to refurbish and prepare empty social housing properties for new tenants.

This is a hands-on role where you'll carry out a wide range of carpentry repairs, renewals and installations within void properties. From replacing internal doors and kitchen units to completing finishing works and general refurbishment tasks, you'll play a key role in ensuring homes are safe, secure and ready to let.

Working as part of a dedicated voids team, you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality workmanship, meeting turnaround targets and maintaining excellent standards across Birmingham's housing stock. We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, can work independently and consistently delivers a right-first-time approach.

Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality workmanship with a strong focus on right-first-time repairs and refurbishments

Role Criteria:

• Proven experience as a Carpenter within domestic maintenance, refurbishment or void property works

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Good knowledge of property refurbishment and lettable standards
