Job summary

Mears Group in Dover is seeking a skilled Carpenter to deliver high-quality repairs in occupied social housing. You’ll replace internal doors, repair skirting boards and architraves, fit kitchen units, and carry out general finishing works while keeping homes safe and well maintained.

This full-time permanent role offers a company van and fuel card, 42.5 hours per week (8-5 Mon-Fri), and a supportive team focused on delivering excellent customer service and reliable on-site solutions.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in domestic repairs and maintenance in a carpentry position.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent customer service in occupied homes.
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day carpentry repairs in occupied properties as part of a responsive maintenance service.
  • Replace and repair internal doors, frames, handles, locks, and hinges.
  • Fit and adjust kitchen units, worktops, cupboard doors.
  • Install or replace skirting boards, architraves, and other decorative joinery.
  • Repair or replace timber flooring, stair components, and handrails where required.
  • Fire regulation works repairs and installs.
  • Make good following repairs, including basic patch plastering or tiling as needed.
  • Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health and safety regulations.
  • Accurately record job details, materials used, and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets.
  • Work professionally and respectfully in residents’ homes, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
  • Identify and report any additional works, safeguarding concerns, or property issues beyond the scope of the job.
  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures at all times.
  • Provide high levels of customer care.

Annual salary: up to £34,387.60 Carpenter&Joiner Location: Dover Contract: Full Time Permanent Salary up to £34,387.60 per annum plus, company van & fuel card 42.5 hours per week (8-5 Monday- Friday)

About the role:

We’re currently seeking a skilled and reliable Carpenter to join our team, supporting a busy responsive repairs contract in Dover. This is a hands-on role where you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality carpentry repairs and maintenance in occupied social housing properties, helping ensure residents’ homes are safe, functional, and well maintained. You’ll be responding to a variety of day-to-day repair requests, including tasks such as replacing internal doors, repairing skirting boards and architraves, fitting kitchen units, completing general finishing works and general Fire regulation works. No two days are the same, and your ability to work efficiently, solve problems on-site, and provide excellent customer service will be essential. With a strong pipeline of work and a commitment to raising standards in social housing, this is a great opportunity to be part of a team that’s making a meaningful impact in the community. We’re looking for someone experienced in domestic carpentry, confident working in occupied homes, and committed to getting the job done right the first time.

Role Criteria:
  • Proven experience in domestic repairs and maintenance in a carpentry position
  • Experience in the above duties
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, with experience working in occupied homes
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices
  • Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to record work
  • Willingness to participate in out-of-hours emergency rota
