Job summary

Rochdale Borough Council is seeking a dedicated Caretaker for Castleton Primary School in Rochdale. The role involves maintaining high standards of cleanliness and assisting with general caretaking tasks to support a safe, welcoming learning environment.

The successful candidate will have experience in cleaning, be capable of carrying out practical handyman tasks, and communicate well with staff and pupils. Hours are 35 per week, Mon-Fri, with overtime as needed and paid accordingly.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of designated areas including toilets and facilities as per cleaning specification.
• Carry out practical handyman tasks as needed.

• Communicate clearly with the school team and ensure a safe environment, including record-keeping and compliance tasks.

About the Role

Facilities Management are looking to appoint a Caretaker at Castleton Primary School, Rochdale

The hours are 35 hours per week to be worked Monday to Friday 10.15am-5.45pm (half hour lunch break). All year round and holidays to be taken in school holiday terms. Additional hours maybe required to meet the needs of the service to which the appropriate overtime will be paid. Hours maybe subject to change to meet the needs of the service

About you

We are looking for someone who is a hard-working, energetic and honest person with excellent customer care skills and the ability to provide a quality service at this busy school.

The successful candidate will:

• Responsible for maintaining an excellent standard of cleanliness of designated areas in the building and duties will include toilets and associated facilities against an agreed cleaning specification and good attention to detail.
• Able to complete practical handy person tasks.
• Ability to work to tight timescales is essential and a flexible approach
• Be able to work independently using initiative and as part of a team
• Able to communicate clearly with and relate positively to all members of the school team.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety at work
• Ability to recognise the importance of ensuring a secure and safe environment of the site to include record keeping and the completion of compliance tasks.

Experience is essential, although persons with skills appropriate and a willing attitude are invited to apply.

Candidates who are unsuccessful after interview may be considered for casual caretaker/cleaner positions within Facilities Management. The hourly rate for a Casual Cleaner is £13.45 per hour.
