Job summary

City of Portsmouth College is seeking a Caretaker to maintain a warm, safe campus across Highbury, Sixth Form, North Harbour and Arundel Campus with cross-campus travel.

You will work 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year, on a full-time permanent contract with a salary of £25,410.97–£26,133.56 per annum and report to Site Supervisor and Head of Estates.

Qualifications

• Full UK Driver’s Licence required.
• Evidence of commitment to professional development.
• A good standard of Maths and English.
• Good organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all work complies with College Health & Safety requirements.
• Unlocking, locking and security checks with keys records.
• Carry out repairs and decorations to a good standard.
• Report building defects to caretaker supervisor and head of facilities.
• Run routine tests of emergency lights, fire alarms, ladders and safety systems.
• Assist security warden to ensure building safety.

About the role

To liaise closely and support the Site Supervisor and Head of Estates to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day running, presentation, and management of the college campus, ensuring a warm, clean, safe, and secure environment for all students, staff, and visitors. To carry out campus maintenance and repairs as directed by the Site Supervisor ensuring these works are carried out in accordance with the relevant Health and Safety legislation and to handle the day-to-day issues related to such works. Be conversant with the Health and Safety policies relevant to the post including those relating to manual handling, working from height, control of legionellae and fire safety. Due to the nature of the role, a valid driver’s license is required as there may be instances where you will be required to cover another campus.

Key Responsibilities

• To ensure that all work undertaken is carried out in accordance with all College Health & Safety requirements
• To carry out unlocking, locking and security checks, keeping keys and records of keys issued in accordance for the college safe working procedure
• To carry out repairs and decoration to an acceptable standard
• Detect and report building defects to the caretaker supervisor and/or head of facilities
• The routine testing and recording requirements of emergency lights, fire alarms, ladders and steps, working at height systems, water services, fire doors, emergency exits and any other compliance-based checks
• To assist the security warden if required, to ensure the security of the building and occupants
