Job summary

Longdon Park School in Derbyshire is seeking a practical Caretaker to help maintain the site, buildings and grounds to a high standard. You will contribute to a welcoming and safe environment where students with diverse needs can learn and grow.

Role runs 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, permanent, 52 weeks, with start planned for October 2026. A driving licence is required and prior school experience is beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Experience in maintenance, caretaker or DIY work.
  • Practical, proactive and able to work independently.
  • Organised with a strong eye for detail.
  • Committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment.
  • Flexible and reliable to handle varied tasks.
  • Driving licence required.
  • Experience in school/education setting beneficial.

  • Maintain the school site, buildings and grounds to a high standard.
  • Carry out repairs, maintenance and general DIY tasks.
  • Complete health & safety checks and support site compliance.

Location: Longdon Park School, Egginton, Derbyshire, DE65 6GU


Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm


Salary: £27,560 per annum (not pro rata)


Contract: Permanent, 52 weeks


Start: October 2026


About the Role

At Longdon Park School, no two days are the same. We're looking for a dedicated and practical Caretaker to become an essential part of our school community, helping to create a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment where our students can learn, grow and succeed. This is far more than a maintenance role. You'll be a valued member of our team, playing a key part in ensuring our specialist school remains a place where students with Autism and additional needs feel secure, supported and able to achieve their full potential.

What you will be doing


  • Maintaining the school site, buildings and grounds to a high standard

  • Carrying out repairs, maintenance and general DIY tasks

  • Completing health & safety checks and supporting site compliance

  • Opening, securing and monitoring the school premises

  • Supporting site improvement and development projects

  • Ensuring learning environments remain safe, clean and ready for each day


What you'll bring

About Us

Longdon Park School opened in June 2015 and is a co-educational day school for students aged 7 to 18 with complex educational needs, communication difficulties and behaviours that may challenge, primarily associated with a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD). We operate across two specialist sites to provide age-appropriate learning environments: Egginton supporting students aged 7-14 and Branston Burton upon Trent supporting young people aged 14-18.


Our therapeutic, supportive and inclusive approach enables every student to develop confidence, independence and resilience. We help our young people understand the impact of their actions, make positive choices and develop the social and emotional skills they need to thrive both in school and beyond.
