Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment LTD. is seeking a School Caretaker to help maintain a safe, welcoming and well-presented school environment in Grimsby. The role covers general maintenance, security checks, and coordination with contractors to ensure the site stays fit for purpose.

You will work across friendly schools, carry out routine tasks, and support staff, pupils and visitors. DBS checks are expected or the willingness to obtain one, with training opportunities and ongoing consultant support.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs around the school site.
• Ensure classrooms, corridors, playgrounds and communal areas are safe and well maintained.
• Open and secure the school premises as required.
• Conduct regular site checks and report health and safety concerns.
• Monitor heating, lighting and other facilities and report faults.
• Maintain outdoor areas, including playgrounds and grounds.
• Move furniture and set up rooms for events and activities.
• Liaise with contractors and assist with site access when needed.
• Ensure equipment and maintenance supplies are stored safely.
• Follow school health and safety, safeguarding and security procedures.
• Respond promptly to maintenance issues and support smooth running of the school.

Tradewind Recruitment is currently recruiting a dedicated School Caretaker to work across a range of friendly and supportive schools in Grimsby, helping to ensure the school premises are safe, secure, clean, and well maintained for pupils, staff, and visitors.

About the Role

As a School Caretaker, you will play an essential role in the day-to-day maintenance and security of the school site. You will be responsible for carrying out general maintenance tasks, monitoring the condition of the premises, and ensuring the school environment remains safe, welcoming, and fit for purpose. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, has a practical approach to problem-solving, and enjoys working independently as well as supporting the wider school team.

Key Responsibilities

• Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs around the school site
• Ensuring classrooms, corridors, playgrounds, and communal areas are safe and well maintained
• Opening and securing the school premises as required
• Conducting regular site checks and reporting any health and safety concerns
• Monitoring heating, lighting, and other facilities, reporting faults where necessary
• Maintaining outdoor areas, including playgrounds, pathways, and school grounds
• Moving furniture and setting up rooms for school activities, meetings, and events
• Liaising with contractors and assisting with site access when required
• Ensuring equipment, tools, and maintenance supplies are stored safely
• Following school health and safety, safeguarding, and security procedures
• Responding promptly to maintenance issues and supporting the smooth running of the school

• Previous caretaking, maintenance, or facilities experience is desirable but not essential
• Practical skills and the ability to carry out basic maintenance tasks
• A reliable, punctual, and hardworking attitude
• Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• The ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively
• An understanding of health and safety procedures
• Good communication skills and a professional approach when working with staff, pupils, and visitors
• A flexible and proactive approach to daily responsibilities
• A valid enhanced DBS, or willingness to apply for one
