Job summary

Capita is hiring a Caretaker/Janitor for the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre. The role is 40 hours per week with a focus on cleaning and facilities maintenance, including windows, grounds, and general site upkeep. Applicants should be prepared for police vetting and willingness to travel to other sites on occasion.

Experience in maintenance or cleaning within secure environments is preferred. A valid clean driving licence and UK residence history of 3+ years are required for vetting

About the role

We currently have an opening for an experienced Caretaker/Janitor to join our team. The majority of this role will be cleaning based. Please note you may be required to travel to alternate sites so preferably you will hold a driving license and use of a vehicle. You will also provide a full cleaning service to the whole facility, both reactive and planned. Job title: Caretaker Job Description: This role is based at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre and works a 40 hour week. You must be able to complete Police vetting which requires you to have lived in the UK for at least 3 years.

What you’ll be doing

Providing a full cleaning service (planned, reactive and specialist) within the whole secure facility as well as offering out of hour’s availability for reactive service and providing cover for holidays and sickness at other sites and own (including weekends, Public Holidays). Undertake monthly internal and external window and window frame clean. Undertake grounds and gardens maintenance, including planting, grass cutting, weeding etc. Collect all waste and deposit at specified points within the facility boundary. Maintain stock levels of consumables and equipment provided throughout the building e.g. toilet/copier paper and detainee consumables. Train others in core caretaking duties/responsibilities and give direction to other members of staff when required.

What we’re looking for

You will have previous experience in a maintenance/cleaning role. Previous experience working within a secure facility. Basic ICT, electrical and mechanical skills. Hold a current clean driving licence. Flexible regarding working hours All applicants will go through police vetting which requires you to have lived in the UK for a minimum of 3 years.
