Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking an experienced and dependable Caretaker for a Secondary School in Pontypridd. The role focuses on keeping the premises safe, secure and well-maintained for pupils, staff and visitors.

The position involves a weekly rotating shift, alternating between 6:00am morning shifts and 11:00am afternoon shifts. You will open and secure the premises, carry out maintenance, perform health and safety checks and support classroom setups.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Caretaker is essential, though not necessarily in a school setting.
• Good practical maintenance and general DIY skills are required.
• Understanding of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to work independently and use initiative.
• Reliable, hardworking and flexible approach.

Responsibilities

• Open and secure the school premises.
• Carry out general maintenance and minor repairs.
• Ensure buildings and grounds are clean, safe and presentable.
• Perform routine health and safety checks.
• Support with setup of classrooms, furniture and equipment.
• Report maintenance issues and ensure timely repairs.

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a Secondary School in Pontypridd, who are looking for an experienced and dependable Caretaker to join their site team.

The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the school premises are safe, secure and well-maintained for pupils, staff and visitors.

The role will involve working on a weekly rotating shift pattern, alternating between morning shifts starting at 6:00am and afternoon shifts starting at 11:00am.

Key Responsibilities:

• Opening and securing the school premises
• Carrying out general maintenance and minor repairs
• Ensuring the school buildings and grounds are clean, safe and presentable
• Completing routine health and safety checks
• Supporting with the setup of classrooms, furniture and equipment
• Reporting maintenance issues and ensuring repairs are addressed promptly
• Responding to general site maintenance requirements

We are looking for a Caretaker with the following:

• Previous experience working as a Caretaker is essential, although this does not need to be within a school setting
• Good practical maintenance and general DIY skills
• An understanding of health and safety procedures
• The ability to work independently and use initiative
• A reliable, hardworking and flexible approach
• Availability to work both morning and afternoon shifts on a weekly rota
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
