Job summary

Novus Cambria is seeking a Career and Work Coach based at HMP Berwyn, Wrexham. The role involves providing one-to-one guidance and group sessions to learners in custody and on release, helping them identify progression goals and reduce reoffending.

Novus Cambria is a leading provider of prison education. We are recruiting a Work Coach within our Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) provision, playing a key role in supporting learners to make informed decisions about their future. Working closely with the prison, this role supports learners throughout their journey in custody and upon release. This includes delivering one‑to‑one guidance and small group sessions within the education department and on the wings, helping learners identify realistic progression goals that support reduced reoffending.

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus Cambria, our prison education provider at HMP Berwyn, working as a Work Coach. This role is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Prison Berwyn is a Category C prison in Wrexham County Borough, Wales. It accommodates a male population. It is the largest prison in the UK, opened in 2017, and is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service. The prisons aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe at all times. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society

Role Responsibilities

The successful applicant will provide advice on learning, work, training and progression, offering practical guidance on education pathways. They will cover personal development, academic progression, and wellbeing, with a strong focus on enabling learners to move successfully into employment, education or training upon release.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience
  • Ability to take a systematic and coordinated approach to work
  • Proven ability to build positive working relationships internally and with external partners, including universities, employers, and charities
  • Inclusive, supportive, and learner-focused approach with a commitment to equality and wellbeing
  • IT competent, with confidence using digital systems and updating learner records
  • Working knowledge of information, advice and guidance processes
  • Knowledge of effective communication methods
  • Knowledge of barriers to employment, education and training and types of support which can be tailored and offered to address these.
  • Previousexperience within education (Desirable)
  • Have a recent track record of effective delivery in an IAG role
  • Hold a minimum L3 qualification in Advice and Guidance, or equivalent (Learning Coach, CIAG, etc)
  • Hold at least a L2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • The ability to speak fluent Welsh (Desirable)
