Job summary

Royal Naval Benevolent Trust is seeking a part-time Kitchen Assistant for Admiral Jellicoe House, a 66-bed care home in Portsmouth serving veterans and spouses of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. You’ll join a small, supportive team to provide high-quality meals to residents and ensure compliance with food safety guidelines.

Qualifications

• Cleans kitchen equipment and areas per schedules.
• Adheres to Hygiene, Health & Safety regulations.
• Assists in vegetables preparation as required.
• Maintains correct storage of dry and perishable goods.
• Cleans pots, pans, utensils and service counters to standards.

Responsibilities

• To ensure that all kitchen equipment and kitchen areas are cleaned according to the cleaning schedules.
• To ensure statutory Hygiene, Health & Safety Regulations are adhered to.
• To ensure correct storage of all dry and perishable goods as soon as possible after receipt and checking.
• To assist in the preparation of vegetables when required.
• To ensure the correct, safe storage of cleaning materials.
• To ensure that all pots, pans, cooking utensils and service counter containers are cleaned to the required standards and correctly stored after cleaning.
• To keep dining room cupboards on all floors topped up with provisions and ensuring that all containers are clean, fresh and include a date opened sticker.
• Ensuring all clean crockery and cutlery is returned to the respective floors.
• Ensuring all condiment sets, sauce bottles etc. in relevant dining rooms are kept clean and always topped up.
• To always follow the uniform policy.
• To assist at functions as directed by Head Cook and Home Manager.
• To attend all Statutory Training as required by the Trust.
• To carry out any other reasonable instructions of the Cook on duty.
