Job summary

The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust is seeking a Kitchen Assistant for Admiral Jellicoe House in Portsmouth. Reporting to the Head Cook, you will provide high-quality food and service to residents, while following food safety guidelines in a fast-paced care home environment.

Flexibility with 4 x 6-hour shifts, permanent part-time role at £13.45 per hour, with a benefits package including health plan, pension and cycle-to-work scheme.

Qualifications

• Experience in kitchen work or hospitality desirable.
• Ability to work in a care home setting with respect to residents.

Responsibilities

• Prepare vegetables and assist in cooking as required.
• Ensure cleaning schedules are followed for kitchen areas and equipment.
• Adhere to Hygiene, Health & Safety regulations at all times.
• Store dry and perishable goods correctly after receipt and inspection.
• Maintain clean crockery, cutlery, and dining room cupboards on all floors.
• Assist at functions as directed by the Head Cook and Home Manager.
• Attend statutory training as required by the Trust.
• Follow the uniform policy and contribute to a positive team environment.

The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust is a Royal Navy & Royal Marine charity that gives help, in cases of need, to serving and former Royal Naval ratings and Royal Marines. We also help their partners, children and some others connected with them. Admiral Jellicoe House is a purpose-built 66 bed care home for veterans and spouses of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines in Portsmouth which opened in June 2022. Our residents and staff enjoy a varied yet familiar way of life to encourage independence and give each day meaning and purpose.

Reporting to the Head Cook at the Care Home and working as part of a small, supportive team, the Kitchen Assistant will play a key role in supporting the residents at the Care Home.

About the Role

To provide high-quality food and service to the residents of Admiral Jellicoe House ensuring compliance with food safety and hygiene guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• To ensure that all kitchen equipment and kitchen areas are cleaned according to the cleaning schedules.
• To ensure statutory Hygiene, Health & Safety Regulations are adhered to.
• To ensure correct storage of all dry and perishable goods as soon as possible after receipt and checking.
• To assist in the preparation of vegetables when required.
• To ensure the correct, safe storage of cleaning materials.
• To ensure that all pots, pans, cooking utensils and service counter containers are cleaned to the required standards and correctly stored after cleaning.
• To keep dining room cupboards on all floors topped up with provisions and ensuring that all containers are clean, fresh and include a date opened sticker.
• Ensuring all clean crockery and cutlery is returned to the respective floors.
• Ensuring all condiment sets, sauce bottles etc. in relevant dining rooms are kept clean and always topped up.
• To always follow the uniform policy.
• To assist at functions as directed by Head Cook and Home Manager.
• To attend all Statutory Training as required by the Trust.
• To carry out any other reasonable instructions of the Cook on duty.
