Job summary

The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist to deliver anaesthetic services for cardiac and thoracic procedures and to participate in a 24/7 CT on-call rota serving a population over 1 million. The post involves teaching, audit and governance responsibilities within a dynamic CT unit.

Qualifications

• Advanced training or equivalent in anaesthesia for cardiac, thoracic, catheter laboratory and cardiothoracic intensive care.
• Significant experience in perioperative transoesophageal echocardiography.

Responsibilities

• Deliver cardiac and thoracic anaesthetic services in CT theatres and ICU.
• Participate in out-of-hours on-call service for the department, including telephone advice and major incidents.
• Provide cover for colleagues during periods of leave.
• Engage in medical audit and research as appropriate.
• Ensure governance requirements and contact arrangements for staff caring for patients.
• Supervise and manage junior medical staff; contribute to teaching and accreditation duties.
