Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a Band 7 ward leader for a 28-bed Cardiology ward in Leeds. The role focuses on professional and managerial leadership, ensuring high standards of compassionate, safe care and patient experience, while overseeing staffing, training, and ward operations.

You will lead the nursing team, manage attendance, appraisals, and mandatory training, and develop service improvements, while maintaining cost-effective resources and patient-centred care.

Qualifications

• RN Adult or RN Child for respective adult/children's areas (Level 1 or 2)
• Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
• Evidence of effective professional and leadership development
• Extensive post registration experience
• Significant leadership experience or equivalent
• Experience in service development and/or change management
• Experience in audit & standard setting
• Current issues in health and social care
• Excellent written and verbal skills
• Ability to organise and prioritise workload
• Skills to lead and develop team members
• Positive approach to change and lateral thinking

Responsibilities

• The Jobholder will carry 24 hour continuing responsibility for the ward/department’s effective and efficient management
• Provide professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team
• Develop and maintain a ward philosophy with patient at the centre of compassionate, safe and quality care
• Manage administrative and financial aspects to ensure cost-effective use of resources
• Lead and empower the team to meet high standards of care and patient experience
