Job summary

The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association in Sheffield is seeking a Dog Wellbeing Technician to care for dogs in accommodation areas, deliver specialist health care and support volunteers in dog welfare. The role emphasises canine wellbeing, positive handling and collaborative working with staff and volunteers.

You will work on-site 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7:15 am – 5:30 pm with a 1-hour lunch break, contributing to high standards of care and wellbeing for guiding dogs.

Qualifications

• Qualification or relevant work-based experience in animal care.
• Experience handling dogs of various ages, sizes and temperaments.
• Basic health and safety awareness in animal care settings.
• Experience supporting a customer-facing organisation.

Responsibilities

• Manage care of a group of dogs in accommodation areas and meet routine needs.
• Provide specialist health care in line with dog wellbeing practices.
• Monitor wellbeing, identify health concerns and escalate when needed.
• Support and develop dog behaviour using guide dog handling techniques.
• Lead and support volunteers in dog wellbeing and tasks.
