Job summary

Canine Partners invites applications for a Canine Care Technician at our National Training Centre in Loughborough. The role is 22.5 hours per week, Wednesday to Friday, with travel to vet appointments as required by the charity vehicle.

You will oversee canine welfare, health monitoring and training support, delivering high standards of care to our assistance dogs as they move toward partnership with disabled people. We welcome diverse applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a specialist in canine welfare, health monitoring and behavioural wellbeing.
  • Health checks, grooming, and bathing dogs, using consent-based training techniques.
  • Liaising with partners at Matching Visits to discuss health issues and grooming requirements.
  • Working with volunteers to ensure kennels dogs are looked after, focusing on wellbeing, exercise and stimulation.

The Role

Position: Canine Care Technician
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (Wednesday to Friday)
Location: Our National Training Centre in Loughborough
Travel: Use of charity vehicle to travel to vet appointments as required.

You will play a fundamental role in delivering the charity’s mission by ensuring that every dog’s wellbeing is the top priority throughout their time in assistance dog training at our National Training Centre. By maintaining consistently high standards of welfare and care, you will enable dogs to learn effectively, build confidence, and thrive during their training. Your work directly supports the charity’s goal of creating successful partnerships between dogs and their future partners. You will deliver preventative healthcare, monitors each dog’s physical and emotional wellbeing, and works closely with trainers to prepare dogs for partnership placement. You will also collaborate with fosterers, volunteers, and partners to ensure a consistent, high-quality approach to the wellbeing of our dogs.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Act as a specialist in canine welfare, husbandry, health monitoring and behavioural wellbeing, ensuring that every dog within Canine Partners receives exceptional standards of care throughout its training journey.
  • Health checks, grooming, and bathing dogs, using consent-based training techniques.
  • Liaising with partners at Matching Visits to discuss any health issues / pre-existing conditions and to go through partner-specific grooming requirements.
  • Working with volunteers to ensure the dogs in kennels are looked after, focusing on their wellbeing, exercise and stimulation.

About You

  • Experience of providing high standard of dog/animal welfare.
  • Practical experience working with dogs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise under pressure and use initiative.
  • Organisation and attention to detail.
