Job summary

Sandwell College is seeking a Security Officer to join our Security team, reporting to the Head of Security. This is a permanent full-time role at Sandwell College, focused on keeping staff, students, visitors and College sites safe.

You’ll patrol premises, respond to incidents, manage access, and contribute to a safe learning environment in line with college policies. The role requires an SIA Door Supervisor qualification and First Aid at Work, with on-site duties across college sites.

Qualifications

• SIA Door Supervisor qualification required.
• First Aid at Work certificate required or achievable within six months.
• Experience in a similar security role.
• Ability to produce clear incident/accident reports.
• Flexible approach; work across sites and on-call.
• Willingness to undertake pre-employment medical.
• GCSE English and Maths (C or above) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Patrolling College premises and monitoring learner behaviour.
• Using radios and body-worn cameras effectively.
• Enforcing College policies and supporting a safe learning environment.
• Managing visitor and contractor access, issuing passes and escorting unauthorised visitors.
• Liaising with duty managers and colleagues during incidents.
• Discussing, mediating and investigating incidents with clear reports.
• Providing first-aid support when required.
• Reporting unsafe conditions and potential health and safety concerns.
• Supporting College security policies and training requirements.
• Maintaining accurate intervention and incident records.
• Keeping training up to date, including SIA, first aid and CPI requirements.
• Working flexibly across different College sites and supporting department needs.
