Job summary

Heart of Yorkshire Education Group at Selby College is seeking a Security Officer to help provide a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. You will play a key role in opening and closing the campus, patrolling to deter and detect security issues, and reporting incidents promptly.

The role requires front-line security experience, an SIA licence, and First Aid training or willingness to undertake.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Open and secure the campus at start and close times.
• Carry out regular patrols to monitor security and safety.
• Monitor student behaviour and intervene per College policy when needed.
• Report incidents and liaise with a duty manager or appropriate channels.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Security Officer to join our team at our Selby College campus. As a Security Officer you will provide an essential service, which will involve providing a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors to the College. The Security Officer role is varied, and no two days are ever the same. As a Security Officer, you will undertake duties to ensure that the relevant campus is opened and closed, secured and alarmed at agreed times and undertake regular patrols to monitor security and reporting any issues through the appropriate channels. You will also monitor student behaviour, intervening and managing behaviours when appropriate, promoting a positive College ethos at all times and reporting inappropriate behaviour to a duty manager. We are looking for someone who can communicate at all levels and has the ability to remain calm and professional in a range of situations, quickly assessing and diffusing situations in line with College policies and values.

As a Security Officer, you should:

• Have previous experience of front-line security
• Hold a SIA Licence
• Be First Aid trained or willing to undertake this training
• Have good communication and interpersonal skills
