Job summary

Hull College is seeking a proactive Campus Support Officer to join the Premises & Security team in Hull. This fixed-term, 32-hour per week role supports student safety, conduct, and campus operations while contributing to a welcoming learning environment.

The position includes a strong focus on safeguarding and professional, courteous campus service. The role involves assisting with safety procedures, porterage, minor repairs, and grounds tasks, under the Duty Manager.

Responsibilities

• Provide a visible presence around campus, promoting positive behaviour in line with College values.
• Support staff with student organisation and conduct matters.
• De-escalate conflict and manage incidents professionally and sensitively.
• Encourage attendance and engagement in classes and enrichment activities.
• Provide information, advice and guidance to students, referring to internal and external support services where appropriate.
• Support safeguarding, health and safety, and welfare procedures at all times.
• Assist with emergency procedures, including fire evacuations and welfare support.
• Lock and unlock buildings in accordance with security procedures.
• Act as a key holder and ensure access arrangements are managed safely.
• Maintain awareness of campus activity and implement appropriate security measures.
• Conduct fire alarm testing and ensure safety systems and signage are fully operational.
• Support safe evacuation procedures in partnership with the Duty Manager.
• Provide porterage services including moving equipment, furniture and parcels.
• Carry out minor emergency repairs within competence and safety limits.
• Report faults promptly to the Premises helpdesk.
• Undertake reactive cleaning and ensure waste is disposed of appropriately.
• Support grounds maintenance tasks, including gritting and external duties.
• Assist the wider estates team to ensure smooth daily operations.
