Job summary

Restaurant Associates at National Railway Museum in York seeks a proactive Café Supervisor to support day-to-day café operations, lead the team during service, train staff and ensure high standards and visitor satisfaction.

You will work alongside the Café Manager, maintaining food quality, health and safety, and driving a profitable, compliant operation in a fast-paced, high-volume visitor environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supervising cafe or catering teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven ability to train and coach staff for high service standards.
• Strong organisation and communication skills with a proactive approach.

Salary: £27,600 per year

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent,5 over 7 days

We’re looking for a proactive and motivatedCafé Supervisorto support the day-to‑day operations of the caféat the National Railway Museum in York. This is a hands‑on role where you willwork alongside your team to deliver excellent service, maintain high‑qualitystandards, and ensure the café operates smoothly during service periods. AsCafé Supervisor, you will support the Café Manager in leading the team,training staff, and providing outstanding visitor experiences.

In this role, you will actively supervise caféoperations, ensuring that team members deliver excellent service, maintain foodquality, and follow all operational and health & safety procedures. Youwill lead by example, working alongside your team during service periods, andsupporting the Café Manager in delivering a profitable and compliant operation.

• Previous experience in a supervisory or team‑leading role within a café, retail catering, or public catering environment.
• Hands‑on approach, comfortable working alongside the team during busy service periods.
• Strong organisational and communication skills.
• Ability to motivate, coach, and support team members to deliver excellent service.
• Flexible, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast‑paced, visitor‑focused environment.
• Basic financial awareness and understanding of operational targets.
• Knowledge of health & safety and food safety standards.

Desirable:

• Experience in contract catering or managing high-volume visitor‑led operations.
