Job summary

The Gritstone Cafe at Substation Brixton is seeking an experienced Café Manager to own sales, profitability and service standards in Brixton, London. You will drive growth, manage costs and lead a busy team in a vibrant, community-focused venue.

Responsibilities include planning menus, coordinating events and corporate days, and maintaining HACCP and allergen compliance while delivering top-tier customer experiences.

Qualifications

• Proven experience managing a café, coffee shop or food and beverage operation.
• Track record of growing sales and improving profitability.
• Strong commercial head with targets, margins, labour costs and KPIs.
• Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate as a minimum (Level 3 desirable).
• Experience leading, training and scheduling a team.

Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of the café’s sales and profitability.
• Grow the revenue by 50% over the first six months.
• Manage gross profit margins, set and review pricing, and control costs without cutting quality.
• Build and execute a growth plan for footfall, average spend and trading hours.
• Track performance daily, weekly and monthly and report to management.
