Job summary

Solutions Limited is seeking a CAD Draughtsman / CAD Engineer in Desborough for a full-time, on-site role. Salary £30,000 – £38,000 with progression, bonus and benefits. Monday – Friday days, 100% on-site, 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays.

Life assurance and free parking are also provided. Ideal candidates will have solid CAD experience, preferably in SolidWorks, with knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, structural steel, welding symbols, and manufacturing tolerances.

Qualifications

• HNC, HND, BTEC, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering / CAD / Design.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and 3D CAD.
• Strong attention to detail and good communication.

Responsibilities

• Produce accurate 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings for steel structures, sheet metal fabrications, and mechanical sub-assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to support procurement, workshop assembly, and production planning.
• Work closely with the Senior Mechanical Design Engineers to convert initial design concepts into detailed production-ready drawing packs.
• Liaise directly with shop-floor fabrication, welding, and assembly teams to resolve technical queries and clarify manufacturing tolerances.
• Process engineering change requests (ECRs) and update legacy drawing packages for existing product lines.

Join a long-established, highly reputable UK engineering specialist operating as part of a major parent group with a turnover exceeding £200m. Experts in large-scale equipment and heavy-duty solutions for blue-chip clients across defence, energy, and aerospace, they offer a stable, technically rewarding environment for ambitious engineers.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Produce accurate 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing drawings for steel structures, sheet metal fabrications, and mechanical sub-assemblies using SolidWorks.

What We’re Looking For

• Core CAD Skills: Proven proficiency in 3D CAD software (ideally SolidWorks) with the ability to produce clean, error-free 2D production drawings.
• Fabrication Background: Practical understanding of sheet metal folding, structural steel fabrication, welding symbols, and manufacturing tolerances.
• Qualifications: HNC, HND, BTEC, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering / CAD / Design (or equivalent apprentice-trained background).
• Key Attributes: High attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a practical mindset suited to a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Desirable: Basic exposure to hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems on yellow goods or machinery is a distinct advantage.
