Job summary

Mane Contract Services is seeking an Engineering Buyer for a Staffordshire-based engineering and manufacturing operation. You will provide day-to-day support to the production supply chain by using MRP/ERP systems to ensure materials are available to meet production needs.

Key duties include raising purchase orders, monitoring supplier performance, developing supplier relationships, reviewing MRP data, and preparing supplier quotations and reports.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Word; Access is advantageous.
  • Practical experience using ERP/MRP systems including BOMs, production scheduling, forecasts and capacity planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to address supply issues.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering/manufacturing environment.
  • Commercial awareness of purchasing, supplier management and cost control.
  • Proactive approach to building supplier relationships.
  • Good understanding of Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD) in an engineering supply chain.

Engineering Buyer
Overview

Buyer required for an Engineering & manufacturing company based in Staffordshire. The role will provide day-to-day support to the operational supply chain through the effective use of MRP/ERP systems, ensuring materials are available to meet production requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Purchase materials, components and services in line with production and operational requirements.
  • Raise and manage Purchase Orders, ensuring requirements are met in terms of Quality, Cost and Delivery (QCD).
  • Monitor and manage supplier performance, addressing issues and supporting continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with existing suppliers.
  • Support the Senior Buyer in the identification, assessment and selection of new suppliers.
  • Review MRP/ERP systems daily to identify material requirements, shortages and potential supply issues.
  • Monitor supplier lead times and delivery schedules, taking proactive action to minimise disruption to production.
  • Prepare supply chain documentation, purchasing reports and supplier quotations as required.
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to resolve purchasing, delivery and material-related issues.
  • Support the wider operational supply chain to ensure materials are available when required.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier records within the relevant systems.
  • Contribute to ongoing improvements in purchasing processes, supplier performance and supply chain efficiency.
Professional Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with people at all levels both internally and externally.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word; knowledge of Microsoft Access would be advantageous.
  • Practical experience using ERP/MRP systems, including BOMs, production scheduling, forecasts and capacity planning.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify potential supply issues and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced engineering/manufacturing environment.
