Job summary

Brent Council is seeking a highly organised Business Support Officer to join the Children Social Care Services. This 36‑hour per week role is fixed term/secondment for 12 months, based at the Civic Centre with occasional travel to other locations.

You will provide professional administrative support, manage financial processes, and work with partners to ensure high-quality services for children, young people and families.

Qualifications

  • Experience providing high-quality business or administrative support in a busy environment.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications, databases and information systems.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a first point of contact for the service, handling enquiries, correspondence, calls and emails professionally and efficiently.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative support, including arranging meetings, preparing documentation and taking accurate minutes.
  • Manage a range of financial processes, such as raising purchase orders, processing invoices and supporting payment administration.
  • Maintain accurate records, databases and spreadsheets, producing reports and supporting statutory returns where required.
  • Work closely with colleagues, partners and external providers to resolve queries and ensure services run smoothly.

About the role

Join our Business Support Team and play a vital role in helping services across Children, Young People and Community Development operate effectively. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised and customer-focused professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, supporting colleagues, managing key administrative processes and helping to deliver high-quality services for children, young people and families. In the role you will develop valuable experience working with a variety of council services, stakeholders and partner organisations, helping to broaden your skills and career opportunities.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience providing high-quality business or administrative support in a busy environment
  • Can manage multiple priorities, organise their workload effectively and meet deadlines consistently
  • Has strong ICT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office applications, databases and information systems
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and can build positive working relationships with a wide range of people
  • Maintains a high level of accuracy and can handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality
  • Is proactive, organised and committed to continuously improving processes and service delivery.
