Job summary

Southwark Council is seeking an experienced Business Support Officer to join its Children’s Social Care service. You will provide essential administrative support, minute-taking, and multi-agency coordination in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Business Support Officer – Children’s Services

Location: Peckham, London SE15

Client: Southwark Council

Role: Business Support Officer

Hours: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm (36 hours per week)

Working Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days in the office / 3 days from home

Pay: £18.00–£20.00 per hour, depending on experience

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Full-time Locum

About the Role

Southwark Council is looking for an experienced and highly organised Business Support Officer to join its Children’s Social Care service.

This is a busy and important role supporting Child Protection Conferences, requiring excellent administrative, IT and minute-taking skills. The successful candidate will be confident working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Convene and minute Child Protection Conferences, with up to 5 meetings per week.
  • Produce accurate and high-quality minutes and records.
  • Draft records using a web-based application.
  • Ensure plans are completed and distributed within 24 hours.
  • Ensure minutes are completed and distributed within 15 working days.
  • Attend conferences held both virtually via Microsoft Teams and in person.
  • Provide effective administrative support within the Children’s Social Care service.
  • Manage multiple tasks and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals and agencies involved in Child Protection Conferences.
Essential Experience & Skills
  • Multi-agency minute-taking experience, ideally within Children’s Services, Social Care or a similar environment.
  • Very strong IT and database skills.
  • Proven administrative experience within a busy, highly pressured and multi-tasking environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of a wider team.
Desirable Experience
  • Knowledge or experience of Child Protection.
  • Knowledge of Children’s Social Care.
  • Previous experience working within a Local Authority or similar public-sector environment.
Location & Hybrid Working

Travelling to the Peckham office is a requirement of the role. Conferences are held both virtually via Microsoft Teams and in person at Sumner House, Peckham, London SE15.

The role offers a hybrid working arrangement of 2 days in the office and 3 days working from home, subject to service requirements.
