Join us at Oxford Brookes University, where every step forward is a leap toward a brighter tomorrow.

The role

Based at our Headington Campus and reporting to the Business Intelligence Manager, the Business Intelligence Analyst Developer will develop and support reporting and analytics solutions that help colleagues across Oxford Brookes make effective use of University data.

Working within the Internal Student Reporting & Business Intelligence team, you will work closely with colleagues across the University to understand their reporting needs and translate these into accessible, reliable and effective dashboards and reports.

You will take responsibility for developing solutions through the full development lifecycle, starting with requirements gathering and design through to development, testing, deployment and ongoing support. The role primarily works with Qlik Cloud and SQL, alongside the University's data warehouse and wider data and reporting environment.

About the team

The Internal Student Reporting & Business Intelligence team provides trusted reporting, data and business intelligence services across the University.

We develop and maintain dashboards, reports and datasets that support operational activity, planning and decision-making, working closely with colleagues across Academic and Student Administration, IT and the wider University.

The team brings together business intelligence, reporting and data engineering expertise, with an increasing focus on improving access to data, automation and delivering reliable, user-focused reporting services.

What will I be doing?
  • Working with colleagues across the University to understand reporting requirements and translate these into effective BI solutions.
  • Designing, developing and maintaining dashboards, reports and data visualisations, primarily using Qlik Cloud.
  • Taking responsibility for BI developments through requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment and ongoing support.
  • Using SQL and the University's data warehouse to analyse, validate and prepare data for reporting.
  • Developing a strong understanding of University data and business processes to ensure reporting is accurate and meets user needs.
  • Investigating and resolving reporting and data issues, providing support and guidance to users where required.
  • Applying good development practices, including documentation, testing, change control and version control.
  • Working collaboratively with BI, data engineering, IT and other University colleagues to continuously improve our reporting services.
What skills do I need?
  • Experience of developing dashboards, reports or other business intelligence solutions using Qlik or a comparable BI platform.
  • Good SQL skills and experience of working with relational databases and complex datasets.
  • Experience of gathering requirements from users and translating business needs into practical reporting or technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solve skills, including the ability to investigate data and reporting issues.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work confidently with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
  • An understanding of data modelling, data warehousing and the principles behind effective business intelligence and data visualisation.
  • The ability to manage your own workload and take responsibility for developments through to completion.
  • Experience of Qlik Cloud, higher education data or working within a complex organisation would be advantageous.
About the location

Based at our Headington Campus, you'll benefit from working as part of a collaborative team while also having flexibility through hybrid working. The campus is approximately one mile to Oxford city centre and is well served by public transport.
