Job description

Square's mission is to power all the ways small businesses do business, helping UK merchants operate more efficiently, grow confidently, and unlock new opportunities. As we expand our contractor‑led sales channel, we are seeking a Business Development Manager to source, attract, and activate a growing network of self‑employed independent sales contractors who will champion Square's hardware and software solutions in the field. In this role, you will own the front end of our contractor ecosystem—identifying high‑potential individuals, presenting the Square opportunity, and ensuring they are set up for success from day one. You'll combine hands‑on outbound activity with strategic pipeline management, building a robust community of motivated sales partners who can drive new merchant adoption. This is a dynamic, field‑facing position requiring a strong commercial mindset, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to engage and influence independent professionals. Some regional and national travel should be expected. Reporting to the Channel Sales Lead, this role offers remote working within the UK.

Your Responsibilities
  • Proactively identify, engage, and attract self‑employed sales contractors capable of representing Square's payment and business solutions
  • Present the Square value proposition clearly and compellingly to potential contractors across multiple channels (events, online platforms, outbound outreach, and field activity)
  • Manage the full contractor acquisition journey—from initial outreach and qualification through onboarding and activation
  • Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of prospective contractors, ensuring consistent conversion against monthly and quarterly targets
  • Collaborate closely with Regional Managers to ensure newly onboarded contractors are aligned with expectations, standards, and sales best practices
  • Track acquisition metrics, forecast pipeline performance, and provide regular reporting to leadership
  • Capture insights from contractor conversations and the wider field to support continuous improvement of acquisition strategy
Your Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience in business development, contractor acquisition, field sales recruitment, or channel expansion
  • Demonstrated success in sourcing and engaging independent contractors, field sales agents, or similar non‑employee partner networks
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to influence and motivate independent professionals
  • A proactive, outbound‑driven approach to building pipelines and securing results
  • Solid understanding of consultative sales, opportunity qualification, and performance metrics
  • Organised, self‑motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyNice to have: experience in fintech, payments, POS, or working with SME audiences; experience with commission‑only or performance‑based contractor models
