Job description

Working with ambitious start-ups, scale-ups and established global enterprises, we deliver complex product development programmes across MedTech, Lab/BioTech, VetCare & Animal Health, CleanTech, AgriTech, Consumer, and Food & Drink.

We are looking for a commercially ambitious Business Development Manager with experience selling engineering consultancy into multinational organisations. This role takes a consultative approach to business development, helping clients define complex development needs, connecting those needs to our multidisciplinary engineering capabilities, and guiding opportunities through a consultative sales process to project award.

The Role:

As Business Development Manager, you will be at the forefront of eg technology’s growth strategy. You will create and convert opportunities, build long-term client relationships and position eg technology as a trusted product development and innovation partner.

Working across one or more target sectors, you will engage founders, R&D and innovation leaders, engineering teams, procurement stakeholders and senior decision-makers, including within large multinational organisations. You will collaborate with our engineering, project management and marketing teams to shape credible propositions that address real client challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop New Business: Proactively identify, target and win engineering consultancy and product development opportunities.
  • Build a Qualified Pipeline: Research target organisations, open new accounts and maintain a healthy pipeline aligned with our capabilities and commercial priorities, with a particular focus on multinational clients.
  • Manage the Full Sales Cycle: Lead opportunities from discovery and qualification through technical scoping, proposal development, negotiation and contract award.
  • Understand Client Needs: Explore the commercial, technical and regulatory context, uncover pain points and identify where eg technology can add value.
  • Shape Technical Propositions: Collaborate with our multidisciplinary teams to develop compelling, technically credible solutions.
  • Build Trusted Relationships: Develop rapport with technical specialists, R&D and innovation leaders, procurement teams and executive stakeholders across complex multinational organisations.
  • Grow Strategic Accounts: Identify follow-on opportunities and develop lasting partnerships with new and existing clients.
  • Represent eg technology: Attend relevant conferences, exhibitions and networking events to strengthen our market presence and generate opportunities.
  • Maintain Commercial Discipline: Use our CRM consistently, provide accurate pipeline forecasts and support informed go/no-go decisions.
What We’re Looking For:
  • At least five years’ experience in business development, client development, account management or consultative sales within an engineering, product development, design or comparable technical services consultancy.
  • A strong track record of selling into multinational organisations and winning consulting, engineering, R&D, innovation or bespoke product development programmes.
  • Experience managing long and complex sales cycles within multinational organisations, involving technical discovery, multiple stakeholders, procurement processes, proposals, commercial negotiation and contract close.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively identify, qualify, nurture and convert opportunities, alongside developing existing accounts.
  • Credibility with technical and executive audiences, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.
  • A degree, qualification or equivalent professional experience in engineering, physical sciences, product design or another relevant STEM discipline.
  • An established network within at least one relevant sector, with relationships among R&D, innovation, product development, engineering or technical leaders within multinational organisations.
  • Experience using a CRM platform, such as HubSpot, for pipeline management and forecasting.
Highly Desirable
  • Understanding of regulated product development, particularly medical devices or other safety‑critical products.
  • Experience growing strategic multinational accounts across multiple business units, functions or geographies.

In addition to a competitive salary (which is dependent on experience), our employees benefit from:

  • 25 days’ annual leave with the opportunity to buy-back additional holiday
  • A discretionary profit bonus at the end of our financial year, a portion of which will be tax free through the EOT model*
  • Generous matched contribution company pension scheme
  • Investment in professional development and learning
  • A flexible working policy
  • Electric vehicle salary sacrifice scheme

* Being part of an Employee Ownership Trust has various benefits to our team, which we would be happy to share during the interview process.
