Job summary

Cheshire East Council is seeking a professional Bus Station Supervisor for Macclesfield Bus Station to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for passengers, operators, staff and visitors. You will be the on-site presence, monitoring operations, and maintaining health, safety and service standards daily.

The role focuses on supervising operations, coordinating with drivers, handling passenger enquiries and incidents, with a full-time 9am–5pm schedule at Macclesfield Bus Station.

Qualifications

• Operational health and safety knowledge, including evacuations and emergency procedures.
• Understanding of bus station operations and the importance of safe, well-managed facilities.
• Knowledge of bus timetables and general operational standards and procedures.
• Awareness of bus industry regulations, such as passenger capacity restrictions and service registrations.
• Ability to manage on-site issues calmly and professionally in a public-facing environment.
• Confidence dealing with passengers, operators and contractors, including handling enquiries and complaints.
• Strong observational skills with the ability to identify risks or issues and take appropriate action.
• A responsible, visible and proactive approach, with pride in maintaining a safe public space.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the safe, secure and effective operation of Macclesfield Bus Station daily.
• Carry out regular health and safety inspections to ensure fitness for purpose.
• Monitor bus movements, stands and layover areas, and liaise with drivers and inspectors.
• Respond to passenger enquiries and complaints and provide travel information.
• Identify and report issues related to facility condition or misuse.
• Coordinate with security and authorities during incidents as required.
• Serve as first point of contact for incidents and escalate to emergency services when needed.
• Work full-time 9am–5pm with duties described in the job description.
