Job summary

Dorset Council is seeking skilled Building Surveyors to join the Repairs & Maintenance Team, managing a diverse asset portfolio to keep buildings safe, compliant and well-maintained. The role sits within the Facilities Management service and supports the Strategic Asset Management Plan 2024-2030.

You will deliver inspections, manage contractors, oversee compliance and help optimise budget and value for money across both operational and commercial assets.

Qualifications

• Experience in building surveying, repairs and maintenance, facilities management or property management.
• Good technical knowledge of building construction, maintenance, compliance and health and safety requirements.
• Experience managing contractors and delivering works within occupied buildings.
• Strong communication, stakeholder management and customer service skills.
• Commercial awareness and a focus on achieving value for money.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Managing a portfolio of assets, overseeing condition, compliance and maintenance activity.
• Procuring, commissioning and managing contractors to deliver repairs and maintenance works.
• Undertaking inspections, condition assessments and defect diagnosis.
• Ensuring compliance with statutory, regulatory and lease obligations.
• Supporting budget management, maintenance planning and value for money.
• Building effective relationships with building users, tenants and stakeholders.
• Contributing to service improvement and long-term asset performance.
• Participating in the out-of-hours emergency response rota as required.
