Job summary

You will coordinate across stakeholders, prepare contracts and drawings, and guide service improvements while ensuring adherence to regulations and budget targets.

Qualifications

• Chartered Building Surveyor with proven delivery of surveys and repairs.
• Strong leadership and coaching experience across mixed technical teams.
• Experience coordinating with senior management and elected members.

• Ability to produce clear professional reports for decision-makers.
• Experience training non-technical staff on building subjects.

Building Surveying Manager

Location: Ipswich

If you're a Chartered building surveying professional with a strong lead-from-the-front mindset, this is your chance to shape a customer-focused surveying service that keeps homes safe, compliant and well maintained. Our client is hiring a Building Surveying Manager who can bring clarity, pace and professional leadership to high-value repairs and major capital improvement programmes across the housing stock.

What you'll be doing:

• Lead and manage a team of Chartered surveying professionals and technical officers, including allocation, programming, monitoring, appraisal and progression of work
• Ensure quality and safety standards are met, including compliance with specification and key regulations (health and safety, environment, building regs and more)
• Manage and deliver complex, high-value projects-selecting teams, coordinating activity, and keeping senior leaders updated on progress and issues
• Lead responsive repairs, major capital improvements and planned maintenance programmes by coordinating stakeholders and targets
• Oversee feasibility studies, estimates, and the preparation of drawings (CAD), specifications and contract documentation-including adaptation, repair, maintenance, demolition and asbestos removal works
• Drive service improvement: investigate best working practices, introduce new policies/procedures, lead service improvement panels, and apply lessons learned
• Take responsibility for significant procurement projects, including writing detailed contract documents and supporting competitive tendering/quotations for smaller projects
• Handle service area complaints and major contractor disputes through to conclusion, liaising with relevant stakeholders as needed
• Ensure duties are compliant with Construction, Design and Management regulations and support safe, effective contract management (quality, progress, costs and safety)

• Experience delivering building surveying work with a focus on compliance, quality and customer outcomes
• Confident leadership skills-able to manage, coach and develop a mixed team of technical professionals
• Strong ability to coordinate across stakeholders, including senior management and elected members, to keep programmes on track
• Professional judgement in budgeting, procurement and contract oversight, with an eye for best value and continuous improvement
• Comfortable producing clear reporting and giving professional/technical advice to senior decision-makers
• Ability to coordinate training for non-technical staff on building-related subjects

Additional information:

• You’ll also provide cover for the Principal Contracts Manager and represent the council at relevant forums and meetings.
