Job description

Salary: £40,600 – £43,700 (depending on experience) + 6% performance bonus

Working location: Colchester area / Field Based

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent

Job summary:

As a Building Inspector, you will be a key member of our inspection service team, collaborating with registered builders to ensure homes meet NHBC Standards and Building Regulations, while providing expert guidance.

What you’ll be doing

Based from home and out in the field daily, you’ll work with registered builders to ensure new homes comply with NHBC Standards, Building Regulations, and relevant legislation. You will build strong relationships with site managers, helping to identify and prevent construction defects. This role helps manage insurance risk and ensures the delivery of quality homes for buyers.

You will receive full training and ongoing support from your line manager and team. You’ll manage your own schedule, with the flexibility to work independently. Your workday begins when you leave home, and weekends are off to promote work/life balance.

What we are looking for
  • Relevant house-building or construction experience
  • Excellent listening, rapport-building, and relationship skills
  • Ability to influence and handle disagreements professionally
  • Strong analytical skills for decision making
  • Understanding of house building processes and trade interactions
  • Physical ability to visit sites and inspect buildings, including working at heights
  • Interest in industry standards, standards updates, and continuous learning
  • Focus on customer satisfaction and quality service delivery
Education and Qualifications
  • Construction-related qualification such as City and Guilds, HNC, HND, NVQ, or equivalent (preferred)
  • Full driving licence is required
NHBC Building Safety Regulator Framework:

NHBC offers support for technical staff registering with the Building Safety Regulator, including training, development, and funding for assessments and registration.
