Job description

Salary: £40,600 – £43,700 (depending on experience) + 6% performance bonus

Working location: Chelmsford area / Field Based

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent

Job summary:

As a Building Inspector, you will be a key member of our inspection service team, collaborating with registered builders to ensure homes meet NHBC Standards and Building Regulations, and are built to high standards with your expert guidance.

What you’ll be doing

Based from home and visiting construction sites daily, you’ll work with registered builders to ensure new homes meet NHBC Standards, Building Regulations, and other legislation. You will develop strong relationships with site managers, helping to identify and prevent construction defects. Your role is vital in managing insurance risk and ensuring the delivery of quality homes for buyers.

You will receive full training and ongoing support from your line manager and team. You’ll manage your own schedule, starting your day from home, and enjoy a healthy work/life balance without weekend work.

What we are looking for
  • Relevant house-building or construction experience
  • Excellent communication skills to build rapport and credibility
  • Ability to influence and handle disagreements professionally
  • Analytical skills to support decision-making
  • Knowledge of house building processes and trade interactions
  • Physical fitness to visit sites and inspect buildings, including at heights
  • Interest in industry standards, standards updates, and ongoing learning
  • Customer focus and commitment to quality service
Education and Qualifications
  • Construction-related qualification (e.g., City and Guilds, HNC, HND, NVQ) or working towards one
  • Full driving licence
NHBC Building Safety Regulator Framework:

NHBC supports technical staff in registering with the Building Safety Regulator, providing necessary training, development, and funding for assessment schemes and registration.
