Job summary

Amey is seeking a General Building Engineer to join the facilities team on-site at HMP Stocken, Rutland. This full-time role offers a stable, long-term contract, with opportunities for career progression within a secure government-linked setting.

You'll perform planned and reactive maintenance across site, including fire safety, lighting, water systems, CCTV and alarms, using CAFM systems to manage jobs and updates. Training and development are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience in general building maintenance or facilities management.
• Skills across fire safety, doors, alarms, lighting or water systems.
• Basic IT skills for job logging and systems.

Salary: £28,792 – £31,792 + 15% weekend allowance
Hours: Full-time, 39 hours per week

We’re offering a fantastic opportunity for a General Building Engineer to join our team on-site at HMP Stocken—working on a secure, long-term contract where your skills genuinely make a difference. At Amey, we support His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), helping to keep prisons safe, secure and running smoothly. This is a hands-on, varied role where no two days are the same.

HMP Stocken is a well-established, modern Category C prison located near Oakham, offering a structured, professional working environment with a strong focus on rehabilitation and skills development. The site benefits from a supportive and experienced facilities team, where collaboration and safety are at the forefront of everything we do. What you will do:

Working as part of the facilities team, you’ll carry out a mix of planned and reactive maintenance tasks, including:

• General building maintenance and minor repairs across site

• Water safety tasks (temperature checks, flushing)

This is a multi-skilled role, ideal for someone who enjoys variety and problem‑solving.
