Job summary

Amey is seeking a General Building Maintenance Operative at HMP Manchester for a permanent role. You will join a on-site facilities team, performing general maintenance tasks and assisting tradespeople to ensure the prison estate runs safely and efficiently.

The role requires a proactive handyman with DIY experience, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work as part of a team. Applicants must be able to obtain Prison Security Clearance including DBS and CTC.

• Solid experience in DIY/general building maintenance
• Willingness to learn and work in a prison environment
• Prison security clearance including standard DBS and CTC will be required

Responsibilities

• Work in a team to provide general maintenance tasks and support tradespeople on site
• Provide professional assistance and contractor escorting when required
• Carry out DIY tasks such as decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture, repairing items around the prison
• Check appliances and fittings; report defects to Team Leader
• Maintain good housekeeping and grounds as required
• Perform other FM duties as directed by the team manager

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent General Building Operative in HMP Manchester, 1 Southall Street, Manchester M60 9AH.

The base salary is £28,792.

The standard hours of work are 39 per week, Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 17:00; Friday to Sunday 08:00 - 16:00, and there will be a need to work 1 in 4 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary). You will also be required to be part of an on call rota.

What You Will Do

• To work in a team to provide general maintenance tasks and support tradespeople on site.
• Provide a professional assistance service to those requesting support including contractor escorting duties when required.
• Complete tasks associated with DIY such as Decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture, repair of items around the prison.
• Checking appliances, fittings and general environment are in good working order and all defects reported to Team Leader.
• General good housekeeping, including litter picking and landscaping around the grounds if required.
• All other FM duties as required directed by team manager.
