Job summary

Operam Education Group is recruiting an experienced BSL Teaching Assistant for a school in Harringay. You will support Deaf and hearing-impaired pupils using British Sign Language, helping them access the curriculum and participate fully in class activities.

Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will differentiate learning support, adapt resources, and build positive relationships to foster independence and confidence in pupils.

Qualifications

• Level 2 BSL is essential.
• Experience supporting Deaf/hearing-impaired pupils in a school.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
• Right to work in the UK.
• Two professional references covering the last two years.
• Teaching roles require QTS or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Use British Sign Language (BSL) as the primary method of communication to support Deaf and hearing-impaired pupils in class.
• Work under the direction of the class teacher to deliver differentiated learning support, both in group settings and on a one-to-one basis.
• Assist in adapting lesson resources and materials to make them accessible for Deaf pupils.
• Build positive relationships to promote confidence, engagement and wellbeing.
• Liaise with teachers, the SENCO and external professionals to ensure a consistent approach to support.
• Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and contribute to EHCP reviews where required.
• Promote inclusion and integration of pupils into school life.
• Support with pastoral care and social communication skills development.
