Job summary

Horizon Teachers is recruiting for a BSL Teaching Assistant role at a school in Harringay to support Deaf and hearing-impaired pupils. You will cooperate with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure access to the curriculum using BSL, promoting independence and inclusion within the classroom.

Essential qualifications include BSL Level 2, DBS on Update Service, and experience with Deaf pupils. The role offers competitive daily rates and DBS support through Horizon Teachers.

Qualifications

• Level 2 in British Sign Language (BSL Level 2) is essential.
• Experience supporting Deaf or hearing-impaired pupils in an educational setting.
• Strong understanding of learning and communication needs of Deaf children.
• Enhanced DBS on Update Service or willing to apply.
• Right to work in the UK and two recent professional references.

Responsibilities

• Use British Sign Language as the primary method to support Deaf pupils in class.
• Deliver differentiated learning support, in groups and one-to-one.
• Adapt lesson resources to be accessible for Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing pupils.
• Build positive relationships to promote confidence and wellbeing.
• Liaise with teachers, SENCO and external professionals for consistent support.
• Maintain records of pupil progress and contribute to EHCP reviews.
• Promote inclusion and ensure pupils are integrated into school life.
• Support with pastoral care and social communication skills development.
