Job summary

Teach Now Limited is seeking a skilled BSL Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist Deaf Provision at an inclusive primary school in Islington. You’ll help children access learning, develop friendships and grow in independence, working across specialist and mainstream activities with a focus on BSL communication.

The role involves collaborating with Teachers of the Deaf, class teachers and Speech and Language Therapists, supporting access to hearing technology and recording

Qualifications

• BSL Level 2 or higher essential; Level 3 desirable.
• Experience supporting deaf children in primary/secondary settings.
• Understanding of barriers faced by deaf pupils; safeguarding mindset.

Responsibilities

• Support deaf pupils individually, in small groups and in class.
• Use BSL, visual resources and vocabulary support to aid participation.
• Collaborate with Teachers of the Deaf, class teachers and SLTs on targets.
• Record progress and share feedback with the teaching team.

BSL Teaching Assistant (Specialist Deaf Provision) – Islington
Pay: £110–£125 per day, dependent on qualifications and experience
Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary — remainder of the academic year
Start date: 1 October 2026
Use your BSL skills to help deaf children connect, participate and thrive. Teach Now is recruiting a skilled BSL Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist Deaf Provision at an inclusive primary school in Islington. You’ll help children access learning, develop friendships and grow in independence, working across specialist and mainstream activities. The provision supports spoken-language development and hearing technology alongside BSL according to individual pupils communication needs.

Your role

• Support deaf pupils individually, in small groups and during classroom learning.
• Use BSL, visual resources and vocabulary support to strengthen understanding and participation.
• Work alongside Teachers of the Deaf, class teachers and Speech and Language Therapists to follow personalised learning targets.
• Support access to hearing technology under specialist guidance.
• Encourage confidence, independence and inclusion throughout lessons, playtimes and wider school life.
• Record progress and share useful feedback with the teaching team.

What you’ll bring

• BSL Level 2 or above essential; Level 3 desirable.
• Experience supporting deaf children or young people in a primary or secondary school.
• An understanding of the communication and learning barriers deaf pupils may face.
• A calm, proactive approach, strong teamwork and a commitment to safeguarding.
• Experience adapting activities and using visual communication strategies.
