Job summary

Teach Now is seeking a skilled BSL Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist Deaf Provision at a primary school in Islington. The role involves using BSL and visual resources to aid deaf children’s participation and learning, in collaboration with Teachers of the Deaf and clinicians.

You will help pupils access learning, develop friendships and grow independence, with focus on communication and hearing technology where appropriate.

Qualifications

• BSL Level 2 or above is essential; Level 3 desirable.
• Experience supporting deaf children or young people in school.
• Understanding of barriers deaf pupils may face in communication and learning.
• Calm, proactive approach with strong teamwork and safeguarding commitment.
• Experience adapting activities and using visual communication strategies.

Responsibilities

• Support deaf pupils individually, in small groups and during classroom learning.
• Use BSL, visual resources and vocabulary support to strengthen understanding and participation.
• Work with Teachers of the Deaf, class teachers and Speech and Language Therapists to follow personalised learning targets.

Pay: £110–£125 per day, dependent on qualifications and experience

Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary — remainder of the academic year

Youll help children access learning, develop friendships and grow in independence, working across specialist and mainstream activities. The provision supports spoken-language development and hearing technology alongside BSL according to individual pupils communication needs.
