Job summary

MHB Consultants, established in 2006 with offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, York and London, is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer. The role covers design, analysis and management of engineering projects, liaising with clients and contractors, and delivering compliant, high-quality outcomes.

The candidate will work across rail, transportation and civil sectors, with opportunities to develop project management and leadership skills within a growing design team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ICE or IStructE accredited course.
• A 2:1 (or equivalent) degree classification or above.
• Demonstrate commitment to CPD toward Incorporated or Chartered Engineering status.
• Evidence of CPD progress toward Incorporated or Chartered status.

Responsibilities

• Undertake preliminary and detailed designs for engineering projects.
• Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and reports.
• Perform structural analysis and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
• Assist in the preparation of fee/tender proposals.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Job description

As an engineer, you will be responsible for working independently and carrying out the design, analysis, and management of engineering projects.

This role involves working closely with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver technically sound and compliant projects.

This role will provide opportunities for involvement and skill development in client liaison and project management, encompassing both time and budget management.

Person Specification

Education

Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English).

Ability to work effectively with the Microsoft suite of programs, such as Word, Excel & PowerPoint

Proficiency in design and analysis, and any associated software

Strong understanding of design codes and standards.

Good communication and collaboration skills.

Ability to manage tasks and work within deadlines.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to comply with Quality Assurance Management Systems.

Experience

Typically, 3-5 years of experience in a relevant discipline
