Job summary

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust invites applications for a part-time Radiographer with postgraduate Mammography qualifications. The role involves breast imaging across Shropshire sites, including screening and symptomatic clinics, with access to mobile units.

A current UK driving licence is required, as is HCPC registration and commitment to NHSBSP standards. You will join a team in a developing service, work flexibly to meet demand, and be supported in CPD and radiographer role

Job Overview Do you have a post graduate qualification in Mammography or are you interested in studying for one? The Breast Imaging Department at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust have a part time position available, for a qualified, HCPC registered Radiographer. Applications are welcome from those who are due to qualify in Radiography and require training in breast, in line with Annex 21 guidance. As a qualified Mammographer you will participate in breast screening, assessment and symptomatic clinics within the static units of The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shrewsbury and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford as well as performing screening mammography on mobile units at various locations throughout rural Shropshire. It is therefore essential that you hold a current UK full driving licence and have access to a car for work purposes. With a flexible approach to work you will be required to work shift patterns to meet the demands of the expanding screening population and symptomatic workload. The nature of this role is that it is open to female applicants only. This provision applies under the Sex Discrimination Act 1975. Your primary base will be The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

Main duties of the job

• You must be committed to providing a high quality mammography service and be capable of working with accuracy and speed to NHS Breast Screening Programme standards and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
• To carry out mammography examinations on Shropshire Breast Screening Service clients and symptomatic patients, to the standard set by the NHS Breast Screening Programme, and to undertake all associated quality assurance procedures to maintain the service at the national standard.
• Provide an excellent, professional breast imaging service to all users.
• Undertake X-ray examinations as an operator in accordance with IR(ME)R 2000.
• Justify medical exposures using departmental examination protocols, own knowledge and experience to ensure a safe and effective mammographic service.
• Practice all radiation protection procedures.
• Undertake a demanding workload whilst maintaining a high standard of radiography and client/patient care.
• Return the hard drive to the breast screening static unit at the end of the working day and upload images onto PACS.
• Maintain appropriate records (paper and IT) in compliance with IR(ME)R and departmental procedures.
• Ensure all equipment is used correctly and any faults or concerns are reported and recorded in the room fault book, and to follow IR(ME)R 2000 relating to equipment handover.
• Perform and record outcomes for all necessary equipment QA tests in line with NHSBSP requirements.
