Job summary

Job overview

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified Radiographers already working as a senior Band 6 in the Radiotherapy Department at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospitals, NHS Trust. Candidates, however must have an in-depth knowledge and clinical experience in pre-treatment .

The post will involve working clinically in the CT scanner and the treatment units, providing support to other Radiographers on all pre-treatment issues and some managerial responsibilities. On-going professional development is actively encouraged.

The department consists of 3 Varian Linear Accelerators; including 3 Truebeams, a Gulmay Unit and a Canon wide bore CT scanner with radiographer-led palliative virtual simulation using Eclipse. We have an active Clinical Trials department and participate in most major trials.

We treat Lung, bone and noode SABR, and plan to introduce prostate SABR soon. We have introduced tattooless Radiotherapy with SGRT and are planning on expanding this service in the next few months. Further technical developments are planned for introduction in the near future.

• The postholder will be an expert in radiotherapy CT scanning.
• This role supports the Pre-treatment lead with managing and leading the team of radiographers who treat cancer patients using radiotherapy.
• It makes sure treatments are done safely and correctly, following national rules.
• It helps train and support staff, sharing expert knowledge and solving problems.
• It checks that equipment works well and helps bring in new technology.
• It talks with patients and families to explain treatments and give support. It helps improve the service by planning, auditing, and working with other teams.
