Job Title: BP Senior Insight Analyst
Reports to: Insight Business Partner, CRO & Distribution

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The new centralised Audience Insights team purpose is to be independent thought leaders at the heart of Channel 4's creative and commercial decision-making, bringing a single source of truth and big picture perspective, challenging and advising the business to ensure profitable business growth through the use of data.

The Insight Business Partner Team works with C-Suite members to prioritise and agree their insight requirements, aligned to the strategic Channel 4 pillars. Commercial Insight is one of these 4 pillars within the overall BP Team, working with the Chief Revenue Officer and their Senior Leaders to deliver specialist insight in the commercial space and working closely with the other BP pillars to drive overall audience understanding & impact.

The BP Team work together with the Insight Specialists (research, data analytics, reporting & data enablement) to get the best answer to the business challenges. This team are experts in their areas & strive to deliver best practise across the organisation.

JOB PURPOSE

Working under the direction of the Commercial Insight Business Partner, the BP Insight Analyst prepares high value insight based on analysis of relevant data and research (when required) to enable key stakeholders to make profitable business decisions for Channel 4.
As an Insight Analyst, you will play a crucial role in driving data-driven decision making across the Commercial function, including shaping briefs to advertisers to drive sales and delivering ad effectiveness studies to drive repeat business.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Work closely with the Commercial Insight BP & stakeholders to gather clear and concise briefs that define the scope, goals and key questions for analysis.
  • Translate these business objectives into actionable analytical / research plans that ensure the appropriate data is captured and analysed to meet those goals.
  • Where appropriate, collaborate with Specialist Insight teams to define the best approach to solving business challenges.
  • Analyse large amounts of data across a variety of sources, condensing them into actionable insights
  • Conduct qualitative or quantitative research (when required) to derive actional insights.
  • Reporting clear & actionable insights which get embedded into the Commercial function to enable decision making
  • Support for drive for the self-service capability across the Commercial function through engagement & training with available tools
Specifically:
  • Use industry research tools (BARB, TGI, Adintel, IPA Touchpoints etc.) alongside internal data to demonstrate the value of wider advertising with Channel 4 Sales.
  • Commission and manage original research (quant and qual) to enhance Channel 4's advertising sales proposition. This could include: research into key audience groups; understanding emerging trends, behaviours and technologies; the development of new advertising formats and trading models; wider media industry think-piece projects.
  • Work with the Channel 4 Sales to produce and deliver presentations which promote Channel 4 to media agencies and clients.
  • Brief, commission, and project manage research agencies to conduct advertising effectiveness projects for Channel 4 Sales linear, digital and social propositions.
  • Support the team with, and potentially lead on, larger insight projects throughout the year to present to agencies and brands across the UK.
KEY RELATIONSHIPS / STAKEHOLDERS
  • Insights Business Partner (for direction)
  • Senior Leaders in designated Commercial business area under direction of BP (clarifying the work, agreeing relevant data & analysis required, reporting back with output)
  • Role is potential succession for Insights Business partner or Specialist Team Senior Research or Insights Analyst (Horizontal move)
  • No people responsibility and no direct financial accountability
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Analysis: Ability to work with large datasets and analyse numerical data to identify trends & patterns, condensing this into actionable insights digestible by a variety of stakeholders
  • Advanced excel skills: Proficiency in advanced Excel functions to clean, analyse, and visualize large datasets
  • Storytelling -the ability to translate complex data to clear messages and bring well considered, valued recommendations to drive profitable decision-making
  • Collaboration skills -proactive ability to build a collaborative environment within the insights function and across the business to drive the best possible outcome
  • Gravitas - experience of engaging with BP & Senior Leaders. Capabilities include personal confidence, capability to challenge, debate, advise and recommend solutions
  • Project Management & Organisational skills - some experience in briefing and overseeing delivery timelines of external research agencies, ability to manage multiple project concurrently
  • Experience with analytical tools: Capability to query large volumes of data via SQL, to conduct data analysis, modelling and forecasting (desired)
  • Research: Experience of designing and managing research studies, both quantitative and qualitative (desired).
  • Industry experience: understanding of the UK media landscape, either at media owner or agency, with an understanding of media commercial model (desired)
  • Industry tools: experience industry research tools e.g. TechEdge, ADIntel, TGI, Touchpoints (desired)
Hybrid Policy:

From September 2023 employees will be working minimum 3 days per week in their office location. The other 2 days should be working from home. This is to create more time for collaboration, creativity, learning and feedback. We also have a working from another location policy for up to 10 days. This pattern is subject to future changes which would be communicated in advance to provide employees with adequate notice of any change.
