Job summary

Strathallan School is seeking a Boys' House Matron to support the day-to-day running of a senior boys’ boarding house. The role focuses on pastoral care, practical support and creating a warm, well-managed environment for pupils.

You will work with the Housemaster and pastoral team to promote pupil wellbeing, encourage independence and maintain high standards of care and organisation within the boarding community.

Qualifications

• Sound knowledge of safeguarding and child protection practices.
• Experience working with children or young people and their wellbeing needs.
• Strong communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, use initiative and manage responsibilities.
• Good administrative and record-keeping skills, including email and basic IT.
• Professional, reliable, calm and empathetic approach.
• Registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) or willingness to work towards registration.

Responsibilities

• Support the pastoral care, wellbeing and welfare of pupils within the boarding house.
• Provide a visible, approachable and reassuring presence for pupils.
• Assist with day-to-day organisation and smooth running of the house.
• Support pupils with daily routines and general care.
• Promote tidiness, organisation and personal responsibility within the house.
• Maintain accurate records and complete administrative tasks as required.
• Communicate effectively with pupils, parents and colleagues.
• Work closely with the Housemaster and pastoral team to support pupils and boarding community.
• Liaise with school departments to ensure pupils receive appropriate support.
• Contribute to a safe, welcoming and inclusive boarding environment.
